Alterations

Sometimes the line between alterations and damage repair is a fine one. The inner lining of many leather coats will end up wearing away before the leather actually does, and we receive many requests make such repairs. We can also lengthen or shorten sleeves, or even monogram your jacket. For suedes, furs and leathers; tapering, replacing skins and resizing garments are very common repairs.

Alterations

When it comes to altering expensive leather or suede jackets and coats, Accent On Leather can work magic. The unique qualities of leather make it an ideal candidate for alteration, because you must take into account the natural stretching and aging that it will endure. The nature of your alteration will vary, depending on the type of leather and the area of modification.

When we change the dimensions of your leather jacket, we do not rush. Most work that is performed is done by hand, because we have greater control over the workability of the garment. We realize that some alterations require a greater level of attention than others. Because we work in leather, we use heavier stitches that hold up to the kind of stress to which an outer layer of clothing is subjected.

Oftentimes, we are asked to alter a leather garment in addition to cleaning services. If your leather jacket needs to be cleaned, consider our alteration services. A good leather or suede jacket is something that is treasured for many, many years. Let's face it: sometimes our body shapes change faster than our favorite leather coats. Don't throw it away, simply let us alter it to your liking.

Leather & Suede Care Tips

girl-snake-jacket.jpgStoring Your Leather or Suede

The best place to store your leather is a dark closet that is neither too humid or too dry. Do not store suede or leather in plastic. If they are stored in plastic, in a warm environment, water can condense inside the plastic and mildew your leather. Once leather gets mildewed, it usually cannot be saved. This can also make the buttons, chains, etc. rust.  Always hang leather garments on wide or padded hangers to maintain the jackets shape. After you pull your leathers out of the closet, feel the skin. If it feels dry, it probably needs conditioned by Accent On Leather. Allow wet or damp leather to air-dry naturally away from any heat source.

Conditioning Leather or Suede

How many times a year should you condition your leathers?
If you ride a lot in hot sunny conditions, or get caught in the rain, you will need to condition it several times during the season. You can usually tell when your jacket or chaps feel dry. Incidentally, rain will really dry out leathers because when the rain evaporates from the jacket, it pulls moisture away from the skin

We have the experience to clean, refinish and gloss your fine leather & suede items keeping them looking and functioning like new! 1-973-694-2081.
